Health journalism is my focus and passion. I’ve worked as a freelance journalist, copy-editor, and fact-checker for medical publications such as Cure, Genome, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital magazine Promise, and online arts magazine Crixeo, working on mainly science and medical research and feature articles. I am also a member of the Association of Healthcare Journalists (ACHJ).
My career started when I was hired to maintain the website and increase video and online content at the Herald Democrat newspaper in Sherman, Texas. I moved into the editorial department as a general assignment reporter, covering several city and school government beats and functioning as a liaison between the print and digital productions of the office, eventually helping the newsroom transition to a content management system. During my internships with Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in the New York office, I worked to produce articles, advocacy campaigns, social media outreach, and edit books such as “In the Eyes of Others: How People in Crises Perceive Humanitarian Aid.”
Since then, I have worked on multiple productions in Austin, Texas as a production assistant, proactively meeting production staff needs while gaining experience in video production from camera work to set design to marketing to audiences. I also continue to work as a freelance journalist with an interest in science, medical, and health topics.
